I do not cotton to your points 2 and 9. Most forums have username links to profile pages. Some forums do allow members to add a signature block to the end of every comment they post. My personal choice is *NOT* to become a member of any forum that allows this behavior.

In these days where so many bloggers are desirous of making an income from their blogging, what I have seen on forums where signature blocks are allowed is that an increasing number members appear to be motivated to post only for the purpose posting their signature blocks. I consider this practice to be signature block spamming and I avoid such forums like the plague.

That is a great comment Tyler. The thing about the nofollow is very true. I think especially in the forums where the webmaster knows about that sort of thing. My hunch is that, unless they are bloggers as well, they probably don’t know about that stuff and are just loading through fantastico a php forum script without nofollow. I think one could find out by looking at the page source right? Thanks for the comment.

I agree with using a signature with a link back to your site which can help with increased traffic. Some forums are getting into the practice of not allowing outbound links in signatures or scripting them to use ref=”nofollow” so that it won’t help generate inbound links for other people’s websites.

But I do like to see that when i do make posts in various forums (www.phpfreaks.com, futurelooks.com etc) I do receive a bit of traffic.

I am doing most of the tips you shared on using forums to generate traffic. =)

However, it was very helpful that you included tip#4. Some bloggers forget that the purpose of posting in forums is to establish online relationships. That won’t be met if they will pick up an online fight( if their ideas were opposed or some will provide criticisms on their blog content).

Btw, I reached your blog through google alerts. I like the layout and content of your blog. Keep it up!
