A Plug for Life Lock

Imagine all your credit cards and your ATM card being run past the limit! In our house, we try so hard to make use that never happens but if a thief took my wallet before I could get to a phone, that would be the reality. I can tell you that stress like this could end you up in the funny farm. So many things in life we say will never happen to us, but it is possible they can. Listen to what Consumer Affairs has said:

For the seventh year in a row, identity theft tops the Federal Trade Commission’s complaint list, accounting for 36 percent of the 674,354 complaints received between January 1 and December 31, 2006.

I’ve written about life lock before on because ID theft has happened to friends and people in my family. Life lock provides a service that can prevent any harm that occurs when ones ID is stolen. It’s easy to sign up and their protection is guaranteed. You need to know that it isn’t just credit cards, hackers now can get the information to ruin you. Do yourself a favor, spend a little money (it is very cheap if you check the website) Get Life lock.

If you are interested in a dissenting opinion, I am a computer security professional and I’ve reviewed the things that Lifelock offers. My view is that it’s not worth the money partially because the “services” they offer are mostly things you can do yourself for free and partially because I don’t like insurance.

Most of all, there’s a much cheaper alternative which is freezing your credit reports. Once you freeze your reports, no one can open credit in your name. Granted, there are kinds of ID theft that aren’t related to credit, but they’re far more rare and generally easier to clear up (ex, someone gets a speeding ticket in Alaska and uses your data, but you’ve never been there in your whole life).

Anyway, here’s my breakdown of lifelock:

Thanks Jeremy. Nice blog by the way. Lifelock has some real detractors that I have been hearing lately. I like their product and the price of it but I totally think dissenting opinions are what’s free market enterprise is all about. BTW, you may or may not have guessed that my articles on Lifelock are sponsored posts. You should also know that I appreciate any input about products and blogs that sponsor me because I value my good name. Thanks for stopping by and for your link.
