I’m not one to judge, but some people on the web are truly pompous and selfish it seems. I have asked some people questions in emails about how they did something here or there I liked on their site and they have been more than accomodating with helpful instructions. Other people have sent back terse replies connoting “high knowledge” like “Oh, that is my custom script” or whatever. I hope I NEVER become like that. When I learn something new I always share it at my dedicated “Online Diarists Forum.” My feeling is that if you aren’t social, get out of the blogosphere because helping and sharing is what it’s all about and even YOU had to learn what you know brother . . . you weren’t born that way so get over yourself.

Some folks seem to feel that, by sharing something they’ve made, they are somehow diminished. This feeling looks so intense — and is so alien to me — that I have begun to suspect it’s hard-wired. Some of us are temperamentally collective; some are temperamentally competitive.
I’m sure there’s advantage to both.
But ours is more fun.
heh
I asked a person how they made their archive page and got the snootiest response that it wasn’t a plugin but a "custom script." Excuse me, I am going to barf now. I’m keeping a weathered eye for these folks you mention from now on. And I agree sharing is much more fun. If anyone ever asks me how to do something, I will open up the blueprints right here and now and show them.
the exception that occurs to me is — if the person makes money doing this — doing whatever — then it might make sense, in some circumstances, for them to be ‘with-holding’ of their skills…
Yeah maybe . . . thanks for lettin’ me vent SB!
I agree…if it is a custom script that perhapds they make money with, I can understand the "not sharing" part, but they don’t have to be nasty about it. I don’t know. I don’t get people sometimes…..
