Hug Karma
Sometimes I get so busy doing things that I put my 2 1/2 year old off in favor of my “projects.” These projects often prove to be a total waste of time and yet they rob my daughter of time with her daddy. SO, tonight I had a lot of “projects” vying for my attention and yet I purposely turned off my laptop, put my school papers out in the Jeep so they wouldn’t distract me, got two ice cream sandwiches out of the freezer and sat down with my baby girl at the kitchen table where we chowed down on the ice cream.
As we sat and talked, I learned she has developed a lot of new words in just a couple weeks. As cool as that was, I still felt myself fighting the work urge a couple times to work on a summer school program I started today BUT, I didn’t give in. We rolled around on the floor and had all kinds of fun with her standing on my hands and playing helicopter and I have to tell you that letting go of my “projects” was really good for me.
I get lots of ideas for my work and projects through playing with my kids. Out of everything however, nothing energizes me as much as getting a “non-solicited” hug from my girl. When she reached over in our big Pier One chair tonight and put her arms around me, I felt the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders.
Hugs can do that.
Remember to give and get hugs as much as you can. Your family, friends and kids will thank you and you will thank them. Letting go of your work is hard at first, but the relaxation process is like a snowball effect once you take that leap of faith and let work go.
