Thursday Thirteen: Why I MicroBlog
Lately my personal diary blog has mutated into a form of a tumblelog slash Twitter (I say “form” only because I “write” lengthy prose here too much here to call this a true microblog) and some people may wonder why I have made that choice to do so. I figured I could come up with 13 reasons to explain why I microblog now. I did, and here are the reasons as my TT. I hope it educates somebody out there who might be bored of regular blogging and wants to expand her/his horizons:
- Less pressure
- People stop by and find a new post more often.
- Feed readers can go down the line while reading latest.
- Don’t have to keep a dud post up just to follow the “only 1 a day” rule.
- Don’t limit yourself to one type of post.
- There is usually more than one thing to say in a day.
- Your seo and Google rating doesn’t REALLY suffer when you have multiple daily posts. but they tell you it will, so ignore “them.”
- If you post (for example) 3 link posts, 1 news story,3 quotes, 3 pictures, and one diary entry, you have a better chance at interesting one person than if you put oodles of energy into 1 type of post that 13 readers don’t like the title of and pass by.
- You have less of that “obligation” feeling to post every day. (it’s ironic how giving yourself permission to post a bunch every day takes away the dread of making yourself post just once a day but it does!)
- Tumblr.com folk do it and it looks cool on them.
- Because you have to Twitter to know how darn cool it is!
- THERE IS JUST SO MUCH TO SAY!!!!
- When you are in the admin screen you get to see your name and a hefty number of posts right next to it!
Three excellent tumblelogs I have come across in the past few months I’ve been studying it are below. I highly recommend subscribing to their rss feeds:

I’m first! I like your reasoning. I tend to post a million times a day, is that bad? I’m just verbose.
I post 2 or 3 times a week only. And we are both right. A blog should be what we want it to be, not something that enslaves us and tells us what to do.
Very well said Nicholas! Thanks for stopping by.
@SAM: No, posting a lot isn’t bad but some articles will tell you you should only post one a day to keep your ratings. Hogwash. The ratings I mean ;)
Where does one find their rating?
Good stuff and true. Variety is the spice of life! The shorter posts mixed with a few lengthy ones add more appeal for our readers. Still, I say be true to yourself always when posting because it’s a reflection.
Nice Thursday post! I love Thursdays, Time to watch Greys anatomy , ER and then fall asleep. I just posted my Thursday post. I had my tooth pulled yesterday so Im still under the weather, but dont worry the post doesnt show pictures of my tooth!
Have a great Thursday!

I like to mix it up. A short post of photos following a long one. I like a week’s worth of posts on the front page to read like a magazine.
Great logic, I just love it. A good solution for those times when inspiration for longer posts just isn’t there.
@all:I’m glad to get so much agreement!
@SAM: Google Toolbar shows page ratings. I sent you an email with some other rating 411.
@:Chatterbox, I really like what you’ve done with your layout!

i still don’t get the ratings thing. . .
It’s based on links to your site and number of hits you get, and some other junk Google thinks up as relevant. If you get the Google toolbar, you can see the rank of each page you visit.
Good Layout and Design. I like your blog. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. . :) :) :)
