Online Diary

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe via rss -or- inspiration, psychology, blogging

I didn’t post the last two days but I have still been hard at work online. My good friend KatelynJane’s migration to a self-hosted Wordpress blog got me back in the saddle with my too-long-neglected personal blog. By that I mean, giving her some pointers on how easy it is to create multiple blogs made me want to get my personal blog up and running again. I haven’t even launched it yet, but for a sneak peek (and to get me on your blogrolls out there) it is at:

Damien at the Speed of Life

I’ll be back with my next post in my current series on “Open Mind,” but for now expect a short delay as I get the Online Diary up and running and finish my last 4 days of teaching summer school. There are reasons why multiple blogs are a good idea. Then again, all the work does have its drawbacks. What do you think about having multiple blogs? Some people I talk to have dozens. What is your perception of an online diary?

Jessica The Rock Chi LOVES an online diary! I also like the multiple blog idea for different subjects or themes. I put my x365 project on its own blog (which has gone by the wayside since I don’t even have time to keep up with one blog now) and I set up another one for mobile blogging for cool little things I happen upon. I didn’t want that crapping up my good blog! LOL

Well, I just talked about having multiple sites a few days ago when I was Thinking about the future and think it can be beneficial….it is quite a bit extra would though!

As for an online diary, it depends on what you talk about about…generally speaking though, I think it would probably be a bad idea :S

Damien, I think it’s a nice idea to have multiple blogs… But wouldn’t administrating more than one blog take you way too much time?

@Ann and @Nick: I understand the input you have about another blog being too much and your point is true and valid and absolutely sensible. Let me explain why this is different.

Most people who have hung around with me since the beginning (like Jessica for example) will tell you that this is the 3rd or 4th time I am trying the online diary thing. In the past it has been too much because I really had no vision or motivation for the work that it required. This time I am streamlining everything. Through strategic plugins to automate the broadcast of and a writing template for the online diary posts it will be a maximum of 30 minutes a post and maybe an hour a week maintenance.

This blog, on the other hand, currently takes up 1-3 hours/day. Then again, it brings in 1-300 dollars a month so the hours are justified. The online diary is a way to get out of my sometimes confining (though lucrative) niche of psychology and inspiration and have a freeform place to really connect with my readers on a less structured level. Now (after close to literally 10 years) I know what an “ecolumn” is all about and best of all, how to make money at it. My online diary will also be a platform to talk about how to do that and “share the wealth.”

I hope that explains how the new blog won’t affect this one at all. If it’s any consolation, I held back from starting a teaching blog as a third one! ;0) Thanks for the comments. You guys are both appreciated. What do you think now??? Just curious.

I like online journals, they’re a way to vent and share more personal issues and not clog up your more professional blog.
