Teacher's unions are great when you have spotless credit, otherwise they want nothing to do with you. Just consider yourself fortunate. Or perhaps, the forclosure/hud homes could be the opton for you. Here is one question that I have you is, why don't you go to your credit union? Usually teachers have a credit union that you can go to and they are more lenient as well. If that doesn't work you should go check out FHA (first time home owner). Fha is goverment loans. Similar houses in my area have recently sold for about $450,000. The four bedroom houses go for closer to $600,000 and the new construction on my block is listed at $759,000. It's ridiculous. Our property taxes aren't cheap, either. Mine run just over $7,000 a year.
