How do You Find the Show LOST?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

LostThe series Lost should have been one of those that got the chopping block, though the ones that are gone needed to be put out of their misery without question. (Bionic Woman, October Road, etc.)

Nonetheless, just because a show continues doesn’t mean it has value … Lost is a keynote example of such a show. I say that with full knowledge that I am hooked on the habit of watching it do the same thing every week. Maybe this is a cry for help …

It’s as if the writers sit around stroking each others’ egos saying things like: “We are soooooo good” to each other. The show never goes anywhere (I have watched 2 seasons now I think, maybe more). In the first seasons we had to endure the flashbacks from before the crash. Now, it’s that familiar annoyance again except this time we are taken to the future so nothing makes sense.

This show seems to be written by “trekkie” types but in the framework of television writing.  In other words: in their own universe. They are people who do secret handshakes and speak in metaphors that no one watching them gets. One has to wonder after watching LOST if these writers even “get” themselves. Every minute is just a bait and switch and cut to commercial.  I find myself wondering if I should continue to trust they aren’t inventing their premise as they go along. That is certainly how it seems to me. Thank goodness on Thursday nights I have TiVo and the Celebrity Apprentice to even things out.

What’s your take on LOST?
