TDavid left a brilliant suggestion and piece of advice for promoting the forum in his comment here. In response to his request, I have written this TT! Thanks TDavid.

13 Crucial Traits of a Personal Blog
(Based on those on my Blogroll)

  1. [All Rileyed Up] Personal experiences, kept somewhat anonymous with helpful links thrown in here and there.
  2. [Hot Coffee Girl] Unanonymous, in your face, what pissed you off yesterday , what rocked your world last night!
  3. [Life is RANTastic!] Dedication to laying down the events of ones life. Care taken to Technorati rank and involving your audience in your online adventures, hopes and dreams! Like a roller coaster!
  4. [Oubipaws] Getting down and getting real about life as we know it. Talking about the transition from living in the back seat of a car to living at the beach and wanting more! (at only 20 years of age!!)
  5. [Party of Five] Working at the craft of writing through blogging and making online friends in the process. Also, finding something to do while hubby is on his blog ;)
  6. [the art of getting by] Relating stories and creating writing meme opportunities for your circle of friends.
  7. [This Eclectic Life] Being #1 top and foremost . . . an online storyteller. Also using the blog medium to raise awareness and funds for charity.
  8. [Tumbled Words] Exploring your own life and involving your readers in the process! Also, having fun with teaking your blog!
  9. [Derek Semmler dot com] Derek will prbably argue with me, but I see his partial MMOL/tech blog as a personal blog. Why? Because he lets us in on his life!!!
  10. [Future Cave Paintings] This guy draws his impressions of life from a humorous perspective.
  11. [Miscellaneous Matters] Just got into this blog . . . what I see so far is a sharing of personal expressions and impressions of life.
  12. Mother Tongue Annoyances Language blog, but personal stories aplenty!
  13. Riley Central: Me? I just try and stay out of their way ;)

Once Again:

If you consider yourself a “personal blog,” I invite you to join my forum. I hope to build a quality database over time of personal blogs out there. This is a good way to get your blog read . . . by me at least ;)

This is an excellent list, which includes some great personal blogs. I think I’ve read most of those (including the Riley one!) and I have to agree they show what a personal blog can be.

I’ve come to the conclusion myself that a personal blog is the hardest sort of blog to do really well, so these bloggers deserve all the kudos they can get.

I don’t know why, but your comment thingie won’t let me leave my link! :( We’re at Buck Naked Politics, where two of our contributing authors did a great job listing 13 ways the British and american political systems differ. You’ll have to scroll down, though…

Well, thank you (as always!) for the nice words!! I enjoy the personal blogs the best. Maybe it’s voyeurism, I don’t know, but I enjoy getting peeks into other people’s lives and how they see the world.

Sarah’s blog is great, too! She is an excellent writer! I’m very glad she started blogging. I’m always anxious to hear what she has to say!

Happy TT

These are some great tips for personal bloggers. I am a regular reader of Life Is RANTastic.

@Malcolm: RANTastic is a great blog. Thanks for your comment, I didn’t think of them as tips but you are right they definitely are!

@Starrlight: Hey thanks! I like them, so it’s good to hear I am not alone!

@Comedy Plus: It’s good to see your avatar around the place again! Yes, Shelly has boosted Riley Central with her compliments and her camaraderie. I have a hunch my blog isn’t the only one she’s boosted!

@soleil: You are welcome! To join the forum you just need to have a somewhat “diary” like blog. I elaborate on what a personal blog is in the text of the forum in case you are still interested, you should head over and join!

@Jessica: Yes Sarah is coming into her own isn’t she? I sit back amazed. This is a girl who swore off writing in recent memory!

@Bucknaked politics: I have no idea what is happening there. Can you give me more details? Thanks for visiting.

Damozel: You are very kind! Thanks for cruising by!

You’re sweet, Damien, and thank you for including me — but you — staying out of “their way”? You are right in there mixing it up and you know it!

Love your forum idea.

Damien, I won’t argue with you because I do view that as my personal blog. Quite a few posts deal with the Interweb and my efforts to make some money but I still try to make it as personal as possible.

Thanks for including me in your list, I’m honored. With regard to the forum, I’m not sure I will head over there yet as I typically spread myself to thin and then don’t have the time to do everything.
