When Things are So Good its Scary

My life has been a series of ups and down . . . mostly ups I’d say, but there have been some real hard times.

Right now however, things are going exceptionally well from a certain perspective.

At work, I am one of three who have recently been asked to be part of a new program. In this program I will have a “coach” or trainer role on my campus. I see this as a giant milestone in my career.

At home, I have been flooded with joy over my 3 children. Tonight I was almost moved to tears watching them all play together on the carpet. Have you ever been so overcome with emotion you just had to leave the room? That was me tonight.

I get to teach guitar after school and get paid for it and my wife and I talk about the future with such promise it gives life to my bones.

Things are going great. Rather than freak out about it, I’m gonna enjoy it . . . breathe it in and let it be what it is. Can anybody fault me for that? This is a great song, I am sure you’ve heard it:

Toad the Wet Sprocket
“All I Want”
Lyrics

Nothing’s so loud as hearing when we lie, truth is not kind
But you said “neither am I”
And the air outside so soft confessing everything . . .

All I want is to feel this way, to be this close and feel the same
When the evening speaks, I can feel it say . . .

Nothing’s so cold as closing heart when all we need is to free the soul
But we wouldn’t be that brave I know
And the air outside so soft saying everything . . .

And it won’t matter now
Whatever happens will be
And the air speaks of all we’ll never be
You won’t trouble me

Let it feel so close
Let it take me in
Let it hold me so
I can feel it take . . .

@Marcia: It is challenging but I know it is halping my immediate class as well as my career.

@Ajeet: Hey thanks! You never know how long they will last, so I will take your advice!

These times are so few and far between. Enjoy them to the fullest. It won’t be long before you have the kids arguing all the time and driving you crazy. Then you’ll look back on this blog and think, Geez, was it ever really that good?

Damien, congrats on the new challenge at work! That sounds very exciting and I am sure you will embrace it fully and do a terrific job.

With the kids, I can appreciate that feeling as I’ve had it before with my two kids. Just the other day I had a similar feeling as I watched my two sons get on the bus for the first day. Our youngest started 1st grade and he was pretty nervous about being at school the whole day and everything. His big brother stood there at the bus stop with his arm around him and walked on the bus with him and promised to help him get to class as well. It was very touching to watch.
